The New 2042 Local Plan Consultation started 23 October 2025 and ends 11 December 2025
This time, Sevenoaks District Council have been given an “immediate mandatory” increased housing target of 1,149 new homes a year, a 63% increase on the current target. They were also asked to review green belt boundaries and identify and prioritise “grey belt” land to meet the new target.
The 2042 local plan showing 2136 units for Edenbridge which is a 39% increase on the last draft plan. However, that is not the full story as it does not show all the sites, including those already with planning permission. The true number is 2801. This will double the size of the population of Edenbridge.
Although we fully understand the need for growth, we want this to be in line with the the wording in the national planning framework, which is that growth and development should be ‘sustainable’. Any growth for Edenbridge needs to be supported by infrastructure and if there affordable homes being built, we would like them to go to those who need them in Edenbridge first.
We also understand that we need a local plan or we are sitting ducks for all kinds of speculative development in Edenbridge. But this needs to be balanced with sustainable growth for Edenbridge. On first review of the plan, we are not seeing the evidence that the planned growth is sustainable.
This is the current visual for Edenbridge this time around (not showing all the other sites than bring the numbers up to 2801).

NEDRA planning is underway to help as many people as possible access the consultation and to make it as easy as possible to comment. The last time around it was extremely complicated and we believe that put many people off. It is imperative that people engage with this as it is very much tied to the future of the town.
Please watch the recording of our recent public meeting where we go through the plan and give tips on how to navigate the document and how to respond.
